Thanking our heroes takes a ‘surreal twist’ in NI village

Banners, posters, signs and messages wishing them well can be seen in every town and village.

For the community in Upperlands, near Maghera, however expressions of thanks have taken on an almost surreal twist.

The former village Post Office has been transformed by local artist Jimmy McGuigan in recognition of carers everywhere.

His ingenious use of 100 per cent recycled materials has resulted in the creation of fantasy tableau incorporating old tyres, bicycles, mannequins and scrap.

Daffodils, tulips and wild irises adorn the stage where a very special Upperlands duo stand ready with guitar and microphone.

Painted on NHS colours, Jimmy’s creation really is a sight to behold.

As you can imagine local people are delighted with their village’s unique celebration and are pleased that along with the continuing good beautiful weather, there is something special near home to brighten their days.

Jimmy is unable to assist the local Upperlands Hub Volunteers in distribution of medicines, meals, information sheets etc, so his personal contribution is his way of give everyone an extra lift at this time.
