Covid-19: Forty applications for Mid and East Antrim community grants

A total of 40 groups have applied to receive funding through Mid and East Antrim Council’s Covid-19 Community Grant Scheme since its launch last week.

And around 13 of the applicants were due to receive their financial support yesterday (Thursday) after council agreed a funding lifeline of £100,000 to assist its citizens during the coronavirus crisis.

The applications, from right across the borough, will see groups using the funds for their response teams to help the most vulnerable.

They are assisting in their areas by delivering shopping and medicine, befriending and check-up phone calls, creating emergency food packs for those in financial trouble and emergency heating for those most at risk.

The grant scheme is a rolling programme with no date for closure and no limit on the number of applications which can be made by any one group, reflecting the many uncertainties surrounding the ongoing pandemic.
