“We have been contacted by NI Water who have had trouble accessing the sites because roads and entrances are being blocked. There is also the added implication that emergency vehicles could struggle to access the sites in the event of any emergency.

“We have similar reports from Glenoe Waterfall and Knockagh Monument. Please stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives.”

NI Water has strongly urged the public to stay away from closed reservoirs to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

It closed public access to its reservoirs in response to the advice to ‘stay home’ and to avoid any large gatherings at these sites.

Maynard Cousley, head of Water Supply at NI Water, says, “We closed these sites to help the public keep themselves, their families and their communities protected from the spread of Covid-19 and we have become aware that some members of the public are continuing to access them.

“While the government has said people can leave their homes for exercise once a day, the following guidance should be followed in order to stay safe:

•stay local and use open spaces near to your home where possible – do not travel unnecessarily;
