DUP inspect latest construction work

The delegation comprising Upper Bann MP David Simpson, MLAs Stephen Moutray and Sydney Anderson together with Lurgan Councillors Mark Baxter and Carla Lockhart met with senior staff along with Mairead McAlinden, Chief Executive of the Southern Health & Social Care Trust to inspect the site.

Speaking afterwards in a joint statement the DUP delegation said:

“This current phase of works is part of a very welcome investment in Lurgan Hospital. It is investment that has already reaped significant benefits to patients and staff alike in terms of working environment, increased single bed wards, infection control and canteen facilities.”

“Already three wards have been refurbished and the canteen moved into the main hospital building at a cost of just over £1m.

“This latest phase of works includes a bed lift, staircase, entrance lobby, and reception area. The new extension will complement the internal ward refurbishment and ‘Ground Floor’ café, recently completed and now open to the public. It is due for completion in early 2012 and is designed to enhance access to and within the hospital, providing a safer and more comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff.

“This represents a very public declaration of support for the Lurgan hospital and commitment to its long term future which is something that will be welcomed by the entire community. We very much appreciate this opportunity to tour the site and see for ourselves the result of the recent financial investment that was possible despite the current very difficult economic situation.

“We want to express our gratitude to all the staff for the care that they give day after day to people who are often very vulnerable.”
