Falls event in Bannville

FALLS occur in over 30% of over 65s and 50% of those aged over 80 every year.

Falls can often result in serious consequences, both physically and psychologically. In addition to bruising, fractures and in some cases death, a fall can reduce confidence and independence and increase isolation.

The Craigavon and Banbridge and Newry and Mourne Home Accident Prevention Groups in partnership with Southern Trust are hosting two local events on Falls Prevention and Improving Bone Health on Thursday October 25 at The Bannville Hotel, Banbridge, (10.30am-1.30pm)

The events have been funded by the Public Health Agency and are aimed at older people who have experienced a fall or who concerned about falling.

The events will provide information on the Southern Trust’s Falls Clinics, the Southern Safer Homes Scheme which provides free home safety checks to those aged 65 and over, as well as other guest speakers who will share information on medicine management, osteoporosis and bone health, physical activity and looking after your eye sight.

A taster session on Strength and Balance exercises, which are highly recommended to help prevent falls, will be provided for those who wish to try these out. The day will finish with a free lunch and everyone who attends will be offered a free home safety aid and a range of information leaflets.
