The consultation on the Plan, which demonstrates Council’s commitment to making the borough accessible to

all who live, work and visit there, will end on February 2.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said; “We are driven and focused on inclusion within ourbBorough, regardless of ability and are continually working and investing to make our facilities and services more accessible for those with additional needs. Over the past number of years we have successfully become an ‘Autism Friendly’ Council, delivered inclusive events, installed Pool Pods in two of our largest Leisure Centres, built inclusive play-parks, and we now provide Changing Places facilities across a number of our sites. More than one in five people here have a disability and are often faced with limited opportunities to participate in activities that many of us take for granted. We value what each and every person within our community needs to live an active and fulfilled life. The Action Plan is an important part of fulfilling our legal duties towards disability, but it is our ambition that it will do more than that. When finalised, it will be our roadmap to delivering a more inclusive society, so it is important that we hear as many voices as possible during this consultation.”
