Lyla, a pupil at Waringstown Primary School, got 15 inches chopped off her hair to donate to Little Princess Trust - a charity that makes and supplies wigs for children who have lost their hair as a result of cancer and other illnesses. The eight year old got her hair cut by stylists in Craigavon’s Tesco store on Friday, and has so far managed to raise an incredible £625 for Little Princess Trust.

“It’s absolutely fantastic.” explained Belinda Copeland, Lyla’s mum.

“I couldn’t believe it - everyone was great to Lyla. She was delighted!”

The haircut had been in the pipeline for several weeks, after Lyla told her mum about the great plans she had for her hair. She was keen to help little girls and boys her age by giving to the charity.

Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children across the UK and Ireland, and provides support to families through the duration of treatment.

“She just decided, herself, that this was something she wanted to do,” Belinda said.

Belinda got in touch with Hair & Beauty by Regis, a salon inside Craigavon’s Tesco store, and they were more than happy to help little Lyla fulfil her dream.

“The Regis team washed, cut and styled Lyla’s hair for free,” shared Belinda.

“Tesco staff came down - along with customers and some of Lyla’s friends - to watch, and then Tesco’s management told Lyla to go into the store and pick an outfit up to the value of £30! We couldn’t have asked for a better day - Lyla would like to thank the Tesco team and the Regis girls for making her day so special. She loves her new hair.”

Lyla’s ‘Just Giving’ page has raised over £400 so far, and is still open for donations at www.justgiving.com/belinda-copeland1
