Millie continues to raise funds

Sharon and David Slater’s daughter, Millie, who was diagnosed with the rare brain disorder accute disseminated encephalomyelitis at just two years of age, is the inspiration behind thefamily’s work to raise the money needed to buy the specialist equipment for the hospital, which is the only hospital in the UK without an MRI scanner for children.

Thankfully Millie is continuing to make good progress and is regularly monitored by medical staff in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Altnagelvin. Already £1.5 million has been raised for the £2 million scanner and David Slater, a member of the Northern ireland Supporters Club, in the Waterside, has been helped with his fundraising my other club members. The club, together with Maiden City Arsenal SC, East Bank Rangers SC, Maiden City Rangers SC, Irish Street FC and Glendermott FC, have joined forces and formed a committee, which is responsible for organising a dance in Rochesters Bar on Saturday, October 27, at 8pm.

A spokesman for the committee said: “Everyone who knows how much fundraising is required to keep their club functioning. It is, however, easy to become self-centered and think selfishly of yourself. The courage and geneerosity of spirit of Millie and her family have inspired us all

“Every club in this event is delighted and hooured to be able to support such a worthy cause which will benefit Millie and countless other children in the future.”

The spokesman said that a limited number of tickets remained for the function and anyone who would liek to make a donation to the appeal could do so through any member of the clubs or could call at Rochestes on Saturday evening.

It is hoped that between £2,500 and £3,000 will be raised to help boost the scanner appeal.
