Moira weight watcher drops six dress sizes

A LOCAL woman who lost an incredible 9 stone and five pounds in 14 months has been on the catwalk showing her svelte new look.

Back in June 2010 Susan Devonshire decided she needed to lose weight so joined her local Weight Watcher class in Moira.

Susan said: “I felt completely overwhelmed as I took the first step to lose weight. I felt I would never make it but knowing I had to go to class each week to be weighed gave me an incentive. I set small goals and as I learnt how to eat healthily and not deny myself anything I realised I could achieve these goals. Making friends with other people in the same boat as myself and gaining tips and inspiration from other members and Leaders encouraged me to keep going. I got to goal in August 2011 losing 9st 5lbs.

“I now feel so much healthier, can move about without any effort and have more confidence inside and out. I don’t feel like hiding away anymore and am really enjoying life. Having dropped six dress sizes means I can wear what I want and feel great. That’s a feeling to treasure.”

Now having a new lease of life Susan took part in a Weight Watchers ‘Success’ Fashion Show held in Armagh.

Every year Weight Watchers Northern lreland in association with local fashion houses stage charity fashion shows at hotels throughout the Province and in Donegal. All the models for these shows are just ordinary people who are members of Weight Watchers meetings and have found the joy and confidence that comes through the healthy eating programme and all proceeds from the shows goes to local charities.

Audiences are amazed to see the transformation not only in size but also in the newly found personal confidence displayed by each model who, attired in clothes selected by local fashion shops, enthusiastally take to the catwalk showing off the clothes to greatest effect.

Shirley McAuley, Leader of Susan’s Weight Watchers class in Moira Methodist Church Hall was full of praise. “Susan has inspired and motivated so many. She always comes to class and shares her experiences and tips with others. By staying to class she herself gets encouragement to keep going and maintain her weight loss.”

Shirley holds classes in Moira Methodist Hall on Wednesdays at 6pm, St Johns hall in Crumlin on Tuesdays at 10am and on Mondays at 7pm in Belvoir Presbyterian.
