Nurses wanted for Australian jobs

NURSES from the area who fancy a change of scenery have been given the chance to apply for jobs Down Under.

Two hundred new nursing posts in New South Wales were announced recently by I.C.E. Group, a Galway based recruitment company in association with New South Wales Health.

This recruitment drive is seeking experienced registered Irish nurses to fill these positions which are available in areas including general medicine, surgical medicine, mental health and midwifery.

This recruitment drive for Irish nurses is due to the current shortage of experienced registered nurses in New South Wales’ public hospitals, especially in regional areas.

“There are excellent career opportunities for Irish nurses in Australia,” said Margaret Cox, Director of ICE Group. “Australia’s state-funded healthcare service is similar to the HSE which makes it easy for Irish nurses to adapt to familiar working practices very quickly. There’s also a big community of Irish nurses in New South Wales so getting used to the new lifestyle takes very little adjustment,” she said.

Interviews for the nursing jobs will take place at the end of August and early September this year in Dublin, London, Manchester and Edinburgh. Successful candidates will be offered a job on the day of their interview and they will take up their positions before July 2012. Initial enquiries can be made to ICE Group who will assist nurses in their formal application. Full details of the job requirements can be found on www.icenurse.com.

“Irish nurses’ qualifications, experience and reputation are highly regarded in Australia,” said Adjunct Professor Debra Thoms, the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer of NSW. “Irish nurses have a long history with us. Patients respond well to their attitude and knowledge as well as their warmth and friendliness. Irish nurses are always welcome here,” she said.
