WALKING is widely recognised as a great way to keep fit - and with this in mind Coleraine Borough Council is launching Bannside Strollers Beginners Walking Club.

The club, being run by Council in conjunction with the Northern Partnership for Physical Activity, will start at Coleraine Leisure Centre on Tuesday, February 14 from 11.00am, walking to 12.30pm.

Jonathan McFadden, from Active Communities Coleraine Borough Council said: “Bannside Strollers Beginners Walking Club is open to the public; in particular we are encouraging over 50’s in the area to join.

“This is a fantastic way to get fit and healthy for 2012, meet new people who share an interest in walking as a way of keeping fit and enjoy many of the beautiful and exciting walks the Coleraine area has to offer.

“As the first ever walking Club run by Coleraine Borough Council, we will be promoting the health benefits of walking and physical activity.

“Walking to keep fit has grown in popularity over recent years and we will be encouraging people of all ages to enjoy some exercise in a fun environment.

“We look forward to seeing the Club grow over the coming months and years and become a well established part of life in the Borough.”

To take part costs £1.00 per person per week and each new member will receive an Active Communities Walkers pack, with the first 20 members receiving a walking pedometer bonus gift.
