Patients with muscoskeletal conditions will now be able to receive Injection Therapy from qualified physiotherapists in the healthcare service.

Patients who might benefit from a timely injection following a physiotherapy assessment will be treated by an Advanced Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist who has completed approved Postgraduate training in Injection Therapy.

Denise Hall, who is the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist in Musculoskeletal Outpatients, explained how the accessibility of this new treatment will be hugely beneficial to patients:
“Feedback to date shows that pain and quality of life are greatly improved for those patients who have availed of Injection Therapy as part of their Physiotherapy plan - helping them to return to work, hobbies, and normal lifestyle.

“It is also much more convenient for patients to receive their injection from their Physiotherapist, avoiding the need to attend additional appointments at other clinics.”

Southern Trust staff can also access the service following an Occupational Health Physiotherapy Assessment to help reduce sickness absence.

Physiotherapy Referrals should be sent through the Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Booking Centre via CCG. Alternatively, patients can email: [email protected]

Following assessment, a Physiotherapist will arange an injection as appropriate to the agreed patient’s management plan.
