Ballymena woman's audio stories allow Causeway Coast visitors to step back in time at historic sites

A Ballymena woman has created an imaginative collection of immersive audio stories aimed at allowing listeners to step back in time while visiting the Causeway Coast.

Gail McCartney formerly ran a B&B in Portglenone, welcoming visitors from all over the world. While so many of her guests loved exploring the area, she often felt that something was missing from their experience.

“Particularly at historical sites where it can be difficult to truly imagine what life was like,” said Gail.

"That’s what inspired me to create Stand Here. Instead of traditional tours or fact-heavy guides, I’ve created short, immersive audio stories that allow listeners to step back in time and experience each location as it once was – imagining the people, atmosphere and daily life around them.”

Each site includes three short stories which can be accessed via a QR code for a fee of £3 or through Gail’s website https://listencausewaycoast.com.

"I’ve also been working with local accommodation providers by supplying leaflets so visitors can easily access the experience,” added Gail.

"The feedback has been incredibly encouraging.

"One comment that really stood out was from someone with ADHD, who said they found it difficult to focus on traditional guided tours but loved the flexibility and personal nature of the audio experience.

"I’m very passionate about showcasing what our area has to offer in a more engaging and accessible way for both visitors and locals.”
