In 1Kings 17v1-6 we read of a man called Elijah; God told him to isolate in a place called Brook Cherith, writes Rev Trevor Gillander.

This was for his own safety and security. He had just declared God’s judgement on Ahab, King of Israel, and it didn’t make him very happy. It was a matter of life and death.

Sound Familiar?

We may not have angered the authorities, but because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been ordered to isolate indoors for our own safety.

This has come upon us just as suddenly and surprisingly as Elijah’s isolation came upon him.

We didn’t really have time to think or plan ahead.

Initially, it was a bit novel, but as time has worn onwards, our isolation has become more and more difficult; at least it has for me.

I’m sure there are those worrying and concerned about the future; others are concerned for the present.

Uncertainty - worry - fear - and anxiety have begun to creep into your life.

Finances, health, children, relationships, your businesses are the subject of concern, constantly on your mind.

If we look at Elijah, we find encouragement and assurance, as we face day after day of isolation.

God knew where Elijah was. Ahab had sent out search parties to look for him and bring him in, but no one knew where to find him.

Being isolated like this, you could easily feel alone and lonely.

It seems as if society has forgotten all about you; no one knows about your situation.

God knows exactly where you are. You are not hidden from His sight. Distance and viruses cannot prevent Him from coming to you. He is not afraid of getting the virus and you need not be afraid of getting anything harmful from Him either, but you will receive His mercy, grace and love if you call out to Him.

God knew what Elijah needed.

The wonderful thing is, ravens brought food to him morning and evening.

I’m not sure what was on the menu, but whatever they brought met his need.

God knows what you need right now. One thing we all need and that is His Mercy, Grace, and His Forgiveness. None of us are exempt.

God knew how to get it to him. I’ve heard of Uber Eats, Meals on Wheels, but here is a new way; meals on wings.

God knows how to get what you need to you; His name is Jesus.

Trust Him today, and follow His advice.
