Visitors will be asked to book a slot in advance due to the ongoing pandemic to ensure social distancing. Toilets will also be available by request.

The gasworks manufactured and supplied to homes in Carrickfergus from 1855 until 1987.

The museum features the largest surviving set of horizontal retorts in western Europe in which gas was made from coal. It is operated by Carrickfergus Gasworks Preservation Society.

Meanwhile, the town’s main tourist attraction, Carrickfergus Castle, remains closed (read more here).

Whitehead Railway Museum reopened on Thursday.
