Those who enter will be in with a chance of winning a £100 voucher of their choice as well as their winning design being featured on the COPNI Christmas card.

The Commissioner for Older People, Eddie Lynch said: “This year has been an uphill struggle due to the coronavirus pandemic, and older people have had to face the brunt of it because of the risk it poses to them. The Christmas card competition is something my office has been doing for many years and I know it’s something many older people look forward to each year – this year should not and will not be an exception.

“This year’s theme is ‘2020 Re-Vision.’ In spite of everything, 2020 has created a sense of togetherness and community spirit. I want older people to reflect on any of the positives that have come from 2020 in the midst of all the adversities. The photo entry could be of a project they were working on during lockdown or when they reunited with their loved ones when the restrictions eased in the summer. It could even be a photo to reflect good will gestures they gave or received during lockdown; or perhaps they have something they want to share from before the pandemic hit our shores – the possibilities are endless and I’m excited to see how this theme is interpreted through the eyes of older people. One thing I’m certain of is this competition will further reinforce the stoic nature conducive with older people from Northern Ireland.”

The theme was created in line with public health guidance and careful consideration was taken regarding the health and wellbeing of older people. Entrants are encouraged to submit photos they already have or can take from the comfort of their home. The winning photograph will be featured on COPNI’s Christmas card and the winner will receive a £100 voucher of their choice.

Entrants must be 60+ and are allowed to submit three photos per person. Both digital and hard copy entries are accepted, however digital is recommended due to quality and because COPNI staff are currently working from home. You can enter by emailing your photograph to [email protected], sending it via COPNI’s Facebook page or posting it to The Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland, Equality House, 7-9 Shaftesbury Square, BT2 7DP. The competition will close 12 noon, Friday, December 11 so get snapping!
