A Christmas Carol is brought to life at Island

FORGET the seasonal bah humbugs, relax and enjoy a Christmas Carol by Candlelight at the Island Arts Centre on Friday December 16 at 8pm.

On the cusp of a new year, which will mark the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’ birth, celebrate with a reading of one of his greatest loved tales and welcome in the Christmas season.

Charles Dickens entranced audiences at home and abroad with animated readings of his works: A Christmas Carol was one of the most popular. Now it makes an ideal seasonal offering at the Island Arts Centre as Pip Utton, who created a great impression as the aging Charlie Chaplin and Adolf Hitler takes on the persona of Dickens and breathes life into a host of familiar characters in his new one-man show.

Using the script and acting directions developed by Dickens himself Pip Utton recreates ‘A Christmas Carol’ in this almost totally candlelit performance. Perfect for escaping the bah humbug aspects of Christmas queues and stressful shopping.

There are no modern theatrical devices such and sound or lighting effects. The power of the writing is brought to life by the power of the performance.

Tickets for the show are £14 and are available online at islandartscentre.com, by telephoning 028 92 509254 or in person from the Island Arts Centre.
