A day in the life of a training consultant

Jim Donnelly started out his career as a painter and decorator and still enjoys picking up a paintbrush from time-to-time. Jim then decided to venture into training and secured a tutoring and assessing role in Belfast. Jim also spent a number of years working for CITB; Construction Industry Training Board.

In April 2010 Jim and Maire established JMD Training. Jim set up an office in the front room and hasn’t looked back since. It would be another 18months before Maire Donnelly would join JMD Training on a full-time basis. JMD Training has come a-long way since; now currently situated on the bustling Boucher Crescent area of Belfast.

JMD Training is a training and consultancy service provider. Our services specialise in everything health and safety and more. The office is open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and we offer training and consultancy services over evenings and weekends. It is our job to develop businesses by training and developing employees and recognising their existing skills.

Typically I am first into the office each morning around 8am. With a strong cup of tea in one hand I set about preparing for the days training.

Firstly, I will filter through emails replying to customers and completing paperwork. At any one time I may have around eight NVQ candidates, seven consultancy candidates and a full weeks training schedule to deal with.

On a training day I might have anywhere from six to twenty candidates.

Training may be at our training facilities on Boucher Crescent or on-site at the customers’ facilities; be-in in Enniskillen, Coleraine, Newcastle or Belfast.

I believe in delivering quality training at affordable prices and making sure the courses are enjoyable. When carrying out consultancy appointments I conduct a training needs analysis to help find the right course for clients and develop training plans. We work with a wide range of industries; construction, healthcare, banks, retail, manufacturing to engineering and more.

Most working days role into the next and before you know it is Monday morning again. We offere a fantastic training and consultancy service provider, offering excellent value-for-money. Our small, dynamic team work well together and we are all extremely proud of where JMD Training is today.
