A sprightly lady, Isobel spoke of days gone by - her time working in Dixon’s of Coleraine as a bookkeeper before moving to England to take up a post as a matron in a boarding school in Essex.

Proudly displaying a 275th pin from Bancroft’s School, Isobel recalled the great times she had caring for the 200 odd boarders.

Isobel returned to Northern Ireland to care for her sister, before taking up residence at Killowen House 11 years ago.

“I am overwhelmed, “ said Isobel.

“I have no secrets to long life - just enjoy it,” she said.

Mayor Cole told Isobel that she was the “youngest looking” 100-year-old he had met, and wished her well on her special day.

“She’s just a splendid lady,” he said.
