Alan searches for young stars

THE search is on once again for a “Shining Star” to be crowned winner of 2012’s Summer Stars on the Prom competition.

Coleraine Borough Council is proud to be hosting the return of the exceptionally popular singing competition taking place over July and August and the coveted title will no doubt attract huge numbers of entrants once again this year.

The competition is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the packed summer programme on the North Coast. This year all heats will be held at the Crescent, Portstewart, and will commence on Wednesday 18th July.

Competition will be hot this year with a mix of local talent from throughout the Borough and visitors to Portstewart competing in the hope of winning the popular title. There will be two age group categories for the competition, four to nine year olds and ten to fifteen year olds.

Compered by local man and drama enthusiast Alan McClarty, each heat promises to provide a great afternoon’s entertainment for all the family.

Alan said; “I am continually astounded by the level of talent and enthusiasm shown by our young competitors. Each year I look forward to new and improved performances each year. I am eager to welcome new talent to the competition and look forward to seeing lots of new faces. So get your registration form in and get practicing!

“I am also very keen to welcome on board as judge each week local personality Andrew Donnell, a student of the London College of Music, who will be opening the show each week with a not to be missed performance.”

The competition attracts a huge number of competitors and spectators to Portstewart every year.

“We have seen some exceptional talent and performances from local children, day visitors and holiday makers alike, and year on year children come back to experience the thrill of the competition.”

Frances Lundy of Riada Resourcing, who is once again sponsoring the event, said; “I am delighted to be returning as a sponsor for the 2012 event.

“This competition encourages children to participate in the performing arts and hopefully have some fun while building confidence. Year on year I am so impressed by the level of talent on show and the amount of dedication and commitment these young people invest in their performances. I wish each and everyone one of them every success and I look forward to the competition.”
