Anselm among favourites for QUB’s Got Talent show

A YOUNG Monkstown student has been named among one of the favourites to win this years ‘QUB’s Got Talent’ competition.

The Queen’s University Students’ Union event, takes place tonight (Thursday) and has a line-up that would be sure to turn Simon Cowell green with envy including out own Anelem McDonnell.

Monkstown lad Anselm is among one of the hot favourites for the title. The 19-year-old first year music student describes himself as a guitarist, however, his technique isn’t exactly traditional as he uses the whole of the guitar to make a unique sound.

And he wants to show the judges on the night something a bit different.

He said: “I am really looking forward to the night, I am a bit nervous because I have seen loads of big name acts playing in the Mandela Hall but I am proud to have the opportunity to play the same stage as them.”

Glenda O’Hanlon from competition sponsor CDS, said: “We are delighted to sponsor Anselm in this competition. We can’t wait to see him on stage and wish him the best of luck on the night.”

From dancers, vocalists and musicians, to slam poets and comedians, the night, which is sponsored by The Signature Works and in aid of Simon Community NI, will be packed with red carpet glamour and is not to be missed.

It will be the student union’s biggest event of the year will see celebrity host Malachi Cush, finalist of BBC’s Fame Academy, joined by three judges including UTV’s Julian Simmons, students union vice president Aidan Hughes and director of Student Plus at Queen’s University, Isabel Jennings.

Along with the other talented acts competing for the prestigious title of winner of QUB’s Got Talent 2013 and the amazing £1,000 prize, there are many other treats in store including a special performances from last year’s winning male vocal group ‘Major Sixth’ and a QUB ‘Les Miserables’ ensemble.

Student Union vice president Aidan Hughes added: “This event is an exciting showcase and celebration of the young talent that we have, not just here in Queen’s, but in Northern Ireland. With our amazing acts now finalised for this year’s event, I know it isn’t going to disappoint.”

The events kicks off in the Mandela Hall at Queen’s Student Union at 7pm and tickets are priced at £7
