Are you a Ballymoney Bride? Wedding costume talk

Are you a Ballymoney bride? Ballymoney Museum will be joining in the excitement with a special exhibition taking a look at the history of wedding dresses, from the past to the present.

The exhibition, “Old, New, Borrowed, Blue”, will be on display 8 March – 30 April and will feature a beautiful selection of wedding dresses, along with other wedding accessories such as photographs, wedding favours, invitations and cards.

This Thursday (10 February), in the build up to “Old, New, Borrowed, Blue”, Madeline McAllister, from Down County Museum, Downpatrick, will give a brief illustrated talk in Ballymoney Town Hall on wedding costume from 1850 to the present day. She will also give a short demonstration on how to care for your dress after ‘the Big Day’. The talk begins at 7.30pm and admission is free.

Ballymoney Museum is also asking for help with their exhibition and is appealing particularly for the loan of pre-1950 wedding dresses for display during “Old, New, Borrowed, Blue”. In addition, the museum would like to make copies of everyone’s favourite family wedding photographs, past or present – these can be easily copied by the museum without damaging the original picture. So, if you have a pre-1950 dress, or a special wedding picture, please bring them along on the 10 February to show the museum staff.
