Arrangements for Remembrance Sunday in Ballycastle

The Ballycastle Branch of the Royal British Legion have released details of arrangements for Remembrance Sunday.

In accordance with the guidelines on the Coronavirus issued by the Government and NI Assembly, the format in Ballycastle will differ considerably from previous years.

The RBL Ballycastle Branch are not organising the traditional Service of Remembrance as this would constitute a mass gathering of too many people.

The Branch officers have agreed that the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, a representative of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and President of the Branch will lay wreaths at 11am. A short service, attended by officers of the branch only and exercising social distancing, may take place subject to guidelines in place at that time. Members of the public should not attend.

Community groups and organisations are requested to still purchase wreaths and remember the fallen by laying the wreath between the hours of noon and 3.30pm on Sunday, November 8.

The Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Chaplain only will attend Bonamargy War Graves to remember the fallen. Others who wish to place wreaths on the War Graves in Bonamargy may do so between noon and 3.3pm. There will be no united Church Service held this year.

The Service of Remembrance on Rathlin Island has already been cancelled for this year.

The Poppy Appeal continues, but there will be no street or door to door collections. Poppies are available in various shops and premises. Please support the Poppy Appeal.
