Back in time!

CHILDREN from the Playhouse Activity Centre, located at the Coleraine West Community Centre, took a step back in time when they invited their grandparents to help with their learning.

The youngsters were exploring the topic of ‘old and new’.

Anthea Ridley, playgroup leader explained: “When our children returned for the new term we discussed new toys and what they could do with their old ones. This led to the topic of ‘old and new’.

“Grandparents are not just child minders they play an important role as educators too, “ told Anthea.

Another grandparent, Ronnie Caldwell spoke to the children about household items, he brought in a hurrican lamp and an old radio, which the children thought was an old microwave!

The children were also treated to a slide show by Stanley Bates. He spoke about what life was like in Coleraine in the last century.

After the interactive session, the children visited Hazlett House in Castlerock and extended their ‘how we used to live’ topic.
