Ballymena Boots store shines at Healthcare Awards

BOOTS Regional Trainers have received special recognition honours at the prestigious Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards.

The training team who played a key role in the implementation and delivery of a range of enhanced services from the Boots store in Ballymena were commended in the Innovation in Training & Service Development Award category, sponsored by Actavis Academy.

The judges were impressed with their unique approach to addressing the health needs in the local community in Ballymena delivering innovative patient care whilst increasing the profile and role of community pharmacy.

Boots is committed to providing communities with the highest level of service available and their holistic approach to healthcare aims to ensure that community pharmacy meets the growing need for health services beyond the GP surgery.

The pharmacists and members of the healthcare team in Ballymena, including dispensers and healthcare assistants, were ‘up-skilled’ by Boots trainers to enable them to deliver an enhanced range of services for the local community.

Additional services include cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure health checks and flu and cervical cancer vaccinations.

Commenting on the success at the awards which were held at the Europa Hotel on February 23, Claire Wilson, Regional Pharmacy Manager for Boots Northern Ireland, said: “All the individuals involved – the regional training team – as well as the pharmacists, dispensers and healthcare assistants in Ballymena – thoroughly deserve their place in the Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards final.
