Ballymoney disco for Glenn’s charity

A Stranocum man is donning his trainers to raise awareness of Encephalitis.

Glenn Millar will be running this years Dublin Marathon on Monday 29th October for The Encephalitis Society, a UK based charity with worldwide links.

He explained: “I am trying to raise awareness of Encephalitis after a friend of mine was diagnosed with this. Encephalitis means inflammation of the brain. It is usually caused or triggered by an infection or rogue autoimmune response. It is estimated that approx. 4,000 people become ill with Encephalitis in the UK each year.

“It can affect anyone at any age and has a high mortality rate (10-30%). However, with improvements in drug therapy and intensive care treatments, many more people are surviving. Encephalitis can cause damage to nerve cells resulting in “acquired brain injury”.

“I am hoping you, and your readers, might help me to raise local awareness as there is an enormous need for ongoing support for those who have had encephalitis and their families.

“I have organised a disco for Saturday, October 20 in Ma Kelly’s, Ballymoney from 8pm - late. Local DJ (and Fuse FM Superstar) Mervyn “TUBE” McIntyre has very kindly offered his services for free for this event.

“I would also like to thank Liz Lamont of Ma Kelly’s for her support. Admission is £5 and all proceeds will be going to The Encephalitis Society.”
