Boys receive special Jubilee message from the Queen

A DIAMOND Jubilee message from the Queen to members of The Boys’ Brigade made its way through Belfast last Thursday (August 23) and Boys’ Brigade members from Newtownabbey were present at an event to mark its arrival.

A number of local companies also celebrated the arrival of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee message to Brigade Council, in Carrickfergus on Tuesday 21 August.

The message was sealed in a silver baton which was first used in 1935 when the BB congratulated King George V on his silver Jubilee and again in 1951 to King George VI for the Festival of Britain.

Four young representatives from each region of the UK met the Queen at Balmoral Castle in Scotland and delivered a message of loyal greetings to her Majesty to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

Her Majesty, who is patron of the Boys’ Brigade, sealed her response in the silver baton which is making its way throughout the British Isles before reaching its final destination at the Annual Council of The Boys’ Brigade in London on September 15.

Mr Tim Dundee, Captain of 4th Newtownabbey BB Company at Carnmoney Presbyterian Church and President of Belfast Battalion, addressed the Boys and relayed the message of loyal greetings from The Boys’ Brigade to her Majesty The Queen.
