Breathe Easy: keep fit, members told

The importance of keeping as physically active as possible, even if you may be battling a severe breathing disorder, was emphasised at the March meeting of Breathe Easy Causeway.

Guest speaker was Specialist Physiotherapist, Dianne Todd, who gave members a detailed and enlightening insight into the lung disorder, Bronchiectasis, and she stressed the importance of exercise to help improve the quality of life.

Dianne told members: “Even if you have a severe lung disorder, don’t be afraid to be physically active. It will help you improve your quality of life and help you better manage your condition.

“Even if you are sitting, it is important to regularly move your hands or feet, no matter how gently. One step or stretch is better than none. Don’t have any fear of being slightly more breathless. Exercise will help strengthen bones, arms and leg muscles and improve your ability to resist infection. It will also help your energy levels and improve your well being and confidence.”
