Broughshane WI hear of plans for village

Broughshane Women's Institute held their February meeting in the village's community centre last week.

Two new members, Elaine Hine and Sharon Moore, were introduced.

A collection was taken for Pennies for Friendship, a voluntary fund of the Associated Country Women of the World, an international organisation whose aim is to improve the standard of living for all women and their families worldwide.

The guest speaker, Lexie Scott, chairman of Broughshane and District Community Association, who gave a very detailed report of the projects and plans for the future of Broughshane.

These include a proposed new community centre, sheltered housing on the site of the former police station, recently acquired by the association, and further development of the Houston Mill site.

Ann Maybin gave the vote of thanks.

The competition - A Community Project - was won by Diane McCaughey. Margaret Logan was second. The Magazine Prize was won by Diane Murdock.

The annual table quiz will be held on Friday, April 8, at 8pm in the Community Centre. Everyone welcome.
