Brownlow House in new BBC drama

The castle had been transformed last year to provide lavish surrounds for the drama featuring Sir Edward Grey, Prime Minister Asquith and Winston Churchill who was First Sea Lord during the First World War.

It’s the second time the historic building will feature on UK television in a week with the tea rooms also having been used in the filming of Kirstie Allsopp’s Best of Both Worlds on Channel 4 (see feature on page 8).

37 Days is a British drama television series covering the weeks before World War I, from the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria on June 28, 1914 to the United Kingdom declaring war on Germany on August 4, 1914.

The Cast of 37 Days includes Ian McDiarmid as Sir Edward Grey, Tim Pigott-Smith as Prime Minister Asquith, Bill Paterson as Lord Morley, Kenneth Cranham as John Burns, Nicholas Asbury as Winston Churchill and Mark Lewis Jones as David Lloyd George.

The series is part of the BBC World War I centenary season and was first announced by Janice Hadlow, the controller of BBC Two, on August 22, 2013.

The series was made to quash assumptions about the war’s inevitability, such as the Sarajevo shooting making the war inevitable.

37 Days will be broadcast on Thursday, Friday and Saturday on BBC Two.
