P1 – P7 pupils put on their trainers to take part in this fun event. The children had been working together on new skipping techniques such as the ‘Egg Beater’ and ‘Double Under’ and also learning about the importance of exercise and keeping their heart healthy. Bushmills Primary pupils took part in this skipping challenge as part of the national Jump Rope For Heart initiative organised by the BHF.

Since its launch in 1987, over 20,000 schools have registered to take part in the Jump Rope For Heart initiative. This popular event raises money to not only support the vital work of the nation’s heart charity, but also the participating schools, as they get to keep 20% of the money raised as well as the skipping kit (containing teaching resources worth over £100).

Jayne Logan, principal at the school said: “Preparing for the Jump Off has given our pupils a reason to get active, not to mention have lots of fun. The Jump Rope For Heart scheme helped us encourage healthy habits, whilst creating a more active ethos in school. It was a fantastic event for the whole school and to date

has raised just over £500 with monies still coming in.”
