‘Business improvement’ is key to future success

COLERAINE Borough Council has formed a partnership with the Department for Employment and Learning’s (DEL’s) Investors in People Unit to enable local firms to participate in a business improvement programme.

The aim of the programme is to assist SME owners and managers to develop key internal management practices within their business. The programme will attract substantial part funding from both Coleraine Borough Council and DEL.

The programme will be delivered through a series of five workshops which challenge participants to benchmark their current people management and development practice and make improvements in relation to how they: strategically plan; effectively manage; communicate; train and manage individual, team and company performance.

Support is provided through group style workshops, on-site tailored consultancy and an interactive web site containing an extensive resource library.

Central to the programme is Investors in People, which provides a best practice framework designed to help organisations unlock business potential through developing the commitment, knowledge, skills and flexibility of their people.

Participating companies will be in the position to gain accreditation of a nationally recognised best practice standard. They will also benefit from networking with local companies, identifying practical solutions to real business and people issues and receive feedback through the assessment process to drive on-going continuous improvement.

Martin Clark, Economic Development Officer with Coleraine Borough Council said: “This partnership between DEL and Coleraine Borough Council will encourage up to eight organisations from a diverse range of business sectors to use the Investors in People process as a way of improving company competitiveness, increasing employee satisfaction, enhancing performance and managing change.

“IIP gives companies the chance to step back and look at their business and then move forward in a smarter way. I would encourage businesses to take advantage of this opportunity to sign up to the scheme at the greatly reduced price of £385”.

An information session will take place in Coleraine Borough Council offices, Cloonavin, 66 Portstewart Road, Coleraine on Friday 22nd June 22, from 9am to 10.30am.
