Cadets strike bronze & silver

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Fire Cadets from Cookstown are celebrating after receiving their Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Bronze Awards.

They attended a special joint award ceremony with Newry Fire Cadets held recently at Newry Fire Station when all were presented with their respective awards.

Eight cadets from Cookstown received a total of four Silver and four Bronze Awards.

As well as the Fire Cadets and their Leaders, the special presentation event was also attended by Gillian Fitzpatrick, Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Kate Thompson, Director, Duke of Edinburgh Northern Ireland and NI Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) officials including Area Commander Lloyd Crawford, Group Commander Geoff Somerville and Station Commander Paul McCloskey Cookstown District.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme offers three progressive Award levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) and a wide range of activities offer endless possibilities to anyone aged 14 to 24.
