Celebrating GCSE success at schools in the Borough

This year witnessed another set of very favourable and encouraging results for Year 12 students at Coleraine College.

The percentage of pupils achieving five or more GCSE grades or equivalents reached a five year high, increasing significantly from last year rising to 72% while those students taking

Occupational Studies courses achieved a 100% pass rate.

Furthermore, all of the cohort achieved at least 5 A*- E GCSE grades or equivalences, which is further evidence of improving outcomes for College pupils over the last five years.

Among the top performers were Pyper McGraw (1 A, 4 B and 3 C grades) and Paige Connolly (4B and 3C grades) while Ben Moore, topped off a fine summer, having made his Irish League debut with Coleraine FC earlier this month, achieving 3B and 4 C grades.

However, Head Girl Sarah Smyth achieved an amazing set of results gaining 1A*, 5A and 3 B grades, testament to two years of exceptionally hard work.

Pupils in the Learning Support Centre also achieved success, gaining Entry Level

Qualifications in Maths, English and History as well as the Prince’s Trust Award which has an equivalency of two full GCSE passes.

Principal Ricky Marsh said: “It is fantastic to see our young people achieve examination success. It is also important to celebrate our students who met or exceeded their own personal targets and achieved their full potential. Success is not always measured in terms of A*- C grades. I also want to thank staff (teaching and non-teaching) for their endeavour and guidance to help get the best out of our students.”
