Charity concert in the Braid

THE organiser of a charity concert in Ballymena later this week has urged the local public to turn out in numbers to support the work of two of the Province’s lesser-known charities.

Proceeds from the concert, in the Braid Arts Centre this Thursday evening, June 23 (8pm), will be divided equally between the Blind Centre for Children and Crossroads Caring.

Ballymena woman Lorraine Clarke, who has organised the event, said: There are so many worthy causes out there and people will have their own personal reasons for supporting particular organisations, but I decided I wanted to try to highlight the work of two charities which maybe don’t attract the same level of publicity as some others.”

The Blind Centre for Children will use its share of the proceeds to help organise its annual outing to the Share Centre in County Fermanagh, while Crossroads Caring has earmarked its share to help organise a night out in Belfast for juvenile carers who give of their time to act as carers for adults.

An excellent line-up of entertainment on Thursday night is headlined by Eugene O’Dornan and Tony Kerr, who will be supported by Joe Moore, Clare Knox and the Mulholland family.

Tickets, priced at £10, are available from reception at the Braid Arts Centre and admission is also payable at the door on the night.

A raffle will also help boost the overall proceeds, with an array of superb prizes including a painting by Ballymena artist Raymond Cochrane; a champagne reception and afternoon tea at the Merchant Hotel, Belfast; a four course meal for two at Gillie’s; various golf-related prizes includes rounds and lessons at local clubs; and a Jenny Bristow hamper, to name but a few.
