The supermarket’s community champion, Jackie Brogan, told the Times how her dash around the aisles for the charity took just 1m 47 seconds - in which time she managed to fill a trolley.

And all through last week Tesco also hosted a Ballymoney Foodbank collection point where customers were invited to donate food, which Tesco will supplement by 30%.

Ms Brogan told the Times: “Tesco decided to have a trolley dash with a difference - because they had an actual shopping list of the things that they needed.

“They were allowed to take three items of each product. We were timed on how quick we could do it and I did it in 1m 47 secs.

And on the list, Jackie said: “We had sugar, tea bags, coffee, pasta, pasta sauce, beans, peas carrots, tinned veg, tins of rice, custard, meat - all that type of thing - fruit juice and biscuits.”

The trolley-dash, which took place on Thursday, November 27 at 8.30am, netted a shopping list for the local foodbank worth £150.

“The food banks’s running all week in Tesco,” Jackie added. “I’m just delighted that Tesco has given this foodbank this extra food.

“It’s been quite busy from Monday, but Friday and Saturday will be our two busiest days.”
