Classic cars get ready for 10th Anniversary Cavalcade

East Antrim Old Vehicle Club is gearing up to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of its flagship Belfast-Portrush Cavalcade event on Sunday 7th August.

So far the entry to the event stands at 110 vehicles ranging in vintage from 1933-1990. Organisers have requested all participants dress up in the style of the year of their vehicle.

“It would be a wonderful spectacle if all entrants came dressed from 1933-1990 style” said Robert Raj, chairman and the event organiser. the club has donated over 45k to various charities over the last nine years. This year’s chosen charity is Friends of the Cancer Centre which is based in Belfast City Hospital and the hope is to raise between four and five thousand pounds. The money for the charities comes through advertising in our Souvenir Programme and the sale of Ballots”.

The cavalcade will assemble at Belfast Zoo on the Antrim Road from 8.30 am and the public are most welcome to come and view the vehicles and maybe fashion of the years goneby. The cavalcade will leave at 11.00 am started by the Chairman of the Charity Gordon McKeown, and travel along the Antrim Road, passing through Templepatrick, Antrim and Ballymena. the vehicles will be on show at the County Hall Car Park, Ballymena from 12.15 pm to 2.00pm when the cavalcade stops for a light lunch at the Tullyglass Hotel Ballymena.

The cavalcade will set off again at 2.00pm going through the centre of Ballymena and thence to Ballymoney, Coleraine , Portstewart and then passing through the centre of Portrush before finishing at Royal Court Hotel for a meal and finisher’s awards. The awards will be presented by alderman Maurice Bradley, Mayor of Coleraine. Times may vary a little.
