Closed for Christmas?

NI Water and the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Association (NIIRTA) are co-operating to encourage small businesses to ‘Beat the Freeze’ should a bout of severe winter weather occur this year.

If small businesses, a corner stone of the local economy, are unable to function due to burst pipes, it will mean an indefinite closure to add on to the normal Christmas break. Closed for Christmas could become closed for good.

The ‘Beat the Freeze’ message reinforces the call for property owners to check that homes and businesses are prepared for the cold weather conditions.

Glyn Roberts, Chief Executive of NIIRTA, said: “While the last few winters have been relatively mild, there is no guarantee that this winter will not see a return of severe conditions, with an attendant economic impact. NIIRTA would join NI Water in encouraging businesses to take steps to ‘Beat the Freeze’ and protect internal water pipes and fittings now to minimise the possibility of disrupted trade later on.”

The advertising campaign is being rolled out through various media outlets including TV, radio, print and billboards.
