The heart charity launched its new Heart Walk in Coleraine Heart Town where local families and friends came together and took part in our 2.5 mile sponsored walk along the banks of the River Bann.

Those who took part raised vital funds for the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal – an ambitious programme which aims to find a cure for heart failure, bringing hope to millions worldwide.

Launching the Heart Walk, Mayor of Coleraine, councillor Sam Cole said: “I commend the partnership that Coleraine Borough Council has made with British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland to launch the Heart Walk in Coleraine. This provides an opportunity for our residents and visitors of all ages to take a stroll or a brisk walk to keep up a level of fitness which is important to looking after your heart.

“This Heart Walk along the River Bann is free for everyone to enjoy at any time of the day. Coleraine Council supports the charity and will continue to help BHF Northern Ireland broadcast their message with the aim to reducing heart disease in our Borough.”

Gary Wilson, Fundraising Volunteer Manager for BHF Northern Ireland, said: “I would like to offer a hearty thank you to everyone who signed up and took part in Coleraine Heart Walk.

“With over 23,000 people in Northern Ireland currently living with heart failure, the money the people of Coleraine and the surrounding area have raised through sponsorship will help us to give hope to those people living with heart failure.”
