The winner’s sponge cake was a classic carrot cake, baked by Mrs Laura McKelvie.

According to the judge it was ‘well flavoured and moist and sat perfectly when sliced’. Mrs Dunlop also commented on the beautiful handmade, bunting decoration which finished the cake.

The winner received a £20 Bella Mia voucher.

Second place was taken by Mr Marek Buczma. Marek’s Polish Murzynek cake, a coconut flavoured sponge, was his grandmother’s recipe.

Mrs Dunlop commended it for having outstanding flavour and said it was refreshing slice of something different. Marek received a £10 Pet and Country Café Voucher.

Finally Mr Andy Guthrie’s classic Victoria sponge, was third.

Judges’ comments were that it was well decorated with both the company, Christies Direct and the charity, Macmillan in mind.

On the day, staff also dressed up in 60’s kitch era clothing and enjoyed the festivities, all in aid of a good cause.
