“If you think you can eat more than 233 oysters in three minutes, meet me in Hillsborough, Co. Down on Saturday September 6 and show me you’ve got the stomach for it,” he says.

The World Oyster Eating Championship takes place annually as part of the Hillsborough International Oyster Festival and Colin has held the Guinness World Record recognised title since 2005. This year he is looking forward to seeing off the competition once again but this time aims to go one better and eat at least 234 oysters.

“My record has stood for eight years, so the time has come for me to try to set the bar higher. With just a few weeks to go my training is well underway but I certainly won’t be including oysters in my pre-event diet. In honesty, I only eat them as part of the competition. Believe me, at my rate of consumption, once a year is quite enough”. said Colin.

Entries to the World Championship have already been received from as far away as the USA and Japan Colin is keen to stress that there is still time for anyone from the Antrim and Ballymena areas who is up to the challenge to become a contender.
