Council backs ‘anti freeze’ campaign

Mid and East Antrim Council is urging both home owners and businesses in the borough to be prepared for winter – whatever the weather.

Mayor, Councillor Billy Ashe says: “Start to winter-proof homes and business premises now.

“‘Beat the Freeze’ only needs to take a few minutes if done now, but can save so much cost and disruption later.

“Insulating your pipework is an essential action to protect not only your water supply but also that of your neighbours.”

Echoing a call to action from NI Water, he added: “The devastation caused by burst pipes cannot be underestimated. It can of course cause structural damage, but the lasting damage in a home can be the loss of personal items, such as tablets, iPads and laptops, the content of which may not be replaceable.”

The suggested check list is: Check that water pipes are protected and well insulated; know where your ‘stop valve’; Keep details of a registered plumber on hand.
