Creative Citzens' Programme bringing art to school children

Through the ‘Artists in the Community Programme 2016’, ceramic artist in residence Trevor Woods is working throughout November with four local primary level schools on a large scale ceramic wall mural, holding clay workshops based on the theme of Fairy Castles.

The final piece will be positioned on the site of the former Ballymena Castle, on the walls of Ballymena Nursery School as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations.

Trevor has been working with clay for over 25 years, he trained as an Art & Design teacher and has taught in a range of schools and arts centres across the country. His work reflects his rural background and he was a member of the Craft team to represent Northern Ireland at the Smithsonian Cultural Festival in Washington DC, US.

Textile artist in residence Nikkita Morgan is currently Artist in Residence at the Edinburgh School of Art.

Nikkita is working with fashion and textile students at the Northern Regional College on a public art textile work throughout the autumn.

The Mid & East Antrim Creative Citizens Programme for this year will also involve Pete Clarke a Ballymena-born photographer currently living and working in Belfast. Pete is photographing the willow wood in the ECOS Nature Park monthly over the course of a year, from September 2016 to September 2017. These images will be displayed on site in the wood throughout the year and members of the public will be invited to submit online their own photographs of the willow wood to augment Pete’s series of 12 images. A selection of these will be exhibited in October 2017.
