CASTLEROCK Cadet Daniel Hatcher has been honoured at a ceremony at Hillsborough Castle where he was formally appointed to serve in the role of Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for the County of Londonderry for the coming year.

The role of Northern Ireland’s nine Lord Lieutenants’ Cadets is largely ceremonial and Daniel who is an enthusiastic Cadet Sergeant with 2350 Squadron of the Air Training Corps at Coleraine can expect to attend Colonel Denis Desmond CBE, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County of Londonderry, on major civic occasions.

In recognition of the award, Daniel will wear a special insignia on his uniform throughout his year in office.

The citation which accompanies his award recognises the commitment and contribution of a ‘quiet, well-mannered young man who embraces all Squadron activities.’

Daniel is no stranger to achievement, not only in the Air Cadet Corps where he recently achieved his BTEC in Public Services with Distinction, but also in the Scouting movement where he achieved the Chief Scout Gold Award and at school as Head Boy of Coleraine Academical Institution

The citation which accompanies this latest honour also recognises Daniel’s capacity “to display outstanding care and concern for others less fortunate than himself” and points to fund raising for RAFA and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and a trip, in 2012, with the charity, Saphara, to teach English to underprivileged children.

“His conduct and turnout is exceptional and he is wholly deserving of the appointment at Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for the County of Londonderry,” th citation reads.
