Debut solo show for local artist

LOCAL artist Michelle Stephens is set to hold her first solo show at R-Space Gallery, Lisburn.

The Moira artist’s show will open at the Castle Street Gallery on Saturday June 30 and will run until Saturday July 21.

Michelle was recently named Young Artist of the Year by the Lisburn Arts Advisory Committee.

She said: “This award will greatly enhance my skill set as a practitioner. It is going to enable me to push the boundaries of my practice and prepare for my first solo show at R-Space. I am extremely grateful to LAAC for this award and the opportunities it has enabled me to take up.”

Michelle graduated from the University of Ulster with First Class Honours in Fine and Applied Arts, in June 2010.

Most recently she has taken up a place on the Making IT program with Craft NI at R-Space until the autumn of 2013.

Her first solo show, entitled ‘T3: Textile x Technology x Technique’ will open on Saturday June 30 from 1-3pm and continue until July 21 (opening hours Wed – Sat 11-5pm). The T3 exhibition will showcase an exciting new body of work, alongside a series of public workshops at £5 per day which are open to everyone (minimum age 6 years old):

Wednesday 11th July - Weaving: 11am to 3pm; Friday 13th July - Peg Loom Weaving: 11am to 3pm; Saturday 14th July - Rag Rug Making: 11am to 3pm; Wednesday 18th July – Hand Embroidery 1: 11am to 3pm; Friday 20th July - Hand Embroidery 2: 11am to 3pm; Saturday 21st July – Felt Making: 11am to 3pm
