Dementia Roadshow for Tesco Ballymena

The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Community Roadshow is to visit Ballymena.

The vehicle, funded by Tesco, will be at the Tesco Store, Larne Road, Ballymena on Wednesday 25 July and Thursday 26 July between 10am and 4pm. People who are currently living with dementia, are worried about a friend or relative’s memory, or just have questions about the condition are encouraged to drop by with no appointment necessary.

This is the third visit of the Dementia Community Roadshow to Northern Ireland. During the first and second visits to Northern Ireland the Roadshow visited Tesco car parks, reaching 4,480 people and receiving almost 900 visitors.

Thelma Abernethy, Alzheimer’s Society Area Manager in Northern Ireland, says: “We are delighted that the Dementia Community Roadshow is back in Northern Ireland and we hope as many people as possible will take advantage of this vital free information service. The Roadshow really is pioneering as it helps us reach out to communities, tackle stigma by raising awareness of the condition and encourage people who are worried about their memory to visit their GP.”

Josh Hardie, Tesco Head of Corporate Responsibility, says: “ We’re extremely proud to help Alzheimer’s Society raise awareness of dementia. The Roadshow is part of the legacy from our Charity of the Year partnership with the society and we hope that it contributes to building a better future for people with dementia.”

Together Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland were Tesco Charity of the Year 2011, which raised over £7million to help people live better with dementia. As well as the Roadshow, the money raised through the partnership funds new research and dementia support professionals to help those living with the condition.
