Do your bit for Children In Need

BBC Children in Need’s 2015 Appeal has launched, and this year the Charity is asking people across the UK to dress up as their childhood hero to help make a difference to young lives.

Here in Northern Ireland, presenters Barra Best and Jo Scott are teaming up with Pudsey Bear for this year’s BBC Children in Need Appeal.

Barra said: “I am absolutely delighted to be part of this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal again as it’s a charity dear to my heart. I know some of the projects and schemes thatbeneit from BBC Children in Need and I am in no doubt that many would struggle without this vital funding. Here’s hoping we break records this year.”

Jo added: “One of the best things about BBC Children in Need is the way people really embrace it and it’sbrilliant to be involved again with that enthusiasm and sense of fun.

“It’s a total privilege to be presenting BBC Northern Ireland’s contribution. I’m in awe of everyone who supports such life changing work and only too delighted to be involved.”

Barra and Jo are teaming up with Pudsey Bear from the BBC Blackstaf studios in Belfast on Friday, November 13.

There will also be two special BBC Children in Need programmes on BBC One Northern Ireland on Thursday, November 12 and Saturday, November 14.

On Thursday, November 12 Barra hosts a special half hour programme – ‘Children in Need: Changing Lives In Northern Ireland’ at 9.30pm, giving viewers the opportunity to see some of the local projects which have benefitted from donations from last year’s appeal, as well as chatting with Hugo Duncan about his annual on-air auction which over the past 10 years has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity, and catching up with Paddy Sloan from BBC Children in Need here in NI ahead of the big night.

The week culminates in BBC Children in Need’s annual night of glitz, glamour and fun-packed fundraising on Friday, November 13, bringing star-studded entertainment throughout the evening and into the early hours on BBC One Northern Ireland from 7.30pm.

Sir Terry Wogan and Tess Daly host the biggest names in music, comedy and entertainment, who all come together to help raise money for the UK’s most disadvantaged children.

One of the highlights of the night will see 175 children from Northern Ireland joining more than 2000 others from across the UK to form a choir taking part in a nationwide live performance of ‘The Climb’.

Viewers across Northern Ireland will hear stories from local children and young people who have been supported by the Children in Need charity here and will see the fun and unusual ways in which people have been raising money to make a difference this year.

Then on Saturday, Barra, Jo and Pudsey will be back for Children in Need: The Best Bits - a one-hour special on BBC One Northern Ireland from 4.30pm giving viewers the chance to relive the highlights from Friday night.

The programme will meet some of the many people who fund raise for the charity in Northern Ireland, and look at several BBC Children in Need supported projects.
