Dragons descend on Antrim’s Lough Shore

For a fantastic family fun day out by the water’s edge, Antrim Lough Shore Park is the place to be on Saturday, June 14 from 12 noon to 4pm.

Antrim Borough Council’s Dragon Boat Race, in partnership with Eye Feel Good Cancer Charity, features a spectacular river race with teams competing in dragon boats to win the coveted title of Dragon Boat Champions.

Join Pete Snodden at the Cool FM Radio Roadshow supported by a range of family entertainment including a mobile animal farm and free dragon themed arts and crafts activities for children.

Children are encouraged to enter into the spirit of the day and come along in Dragon costume. Judging will take place at 2pm at the Radio Roadshow and prizes will be awarded for the most imaginative dragon costume.

One of the highlights of the event will be a Chinese dance display at 2.30pm.

Eye Feel Good will also be providing a range of activities as part of the Dragon Boat Race including a climbing wall, archery, Feel Good fitness, canoeing and stand up paddle boarding.

There will also be a dragon treasure hunt taking place throughout the event and you can search for ‘loot’ at the Lough Shore Park with a chance to win some fantastic prizes!

The Dragon Boat Race is in aid of Eye Feel Good and is an adrenaline-fuelled event.

Money raised will go towards the Eye Feel Good supporting the charity with their work in the local Antrim community to promote healthy lifestyles through physical activity.

Karen Steele, Development Manager (Visitor Servicing) with Antrim Borough Council, said: “The Lough Shore Park will be a hive of activity on June 14 with something for everyone.

“Antrim Borough Council is delighted to be working with Eye Feel Good for the Dragon Boat Race and the public will be able to make donation to them on the day.”

The Dragon Boat Race is free of charge to the public. Limited disabled parking will be available at the Lough Shore Park and a free bus service will be running regularly from the overflow car park at Antrim Stadium on the Lough Road.

The Chinese dance and arts and crafts at the event have been provided by Antrim Borough Council’s Good Relations Programme which has received financial support through the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.

This is one of Antrim Borough Council’s event for Community Relations Week which runs from June 16 to 22, within the theme “Building a United Community”.
