Drop in for a bite at Lisburn restaurant week

Lisburn Restaurant Week, the first event of its kind to be held outside Belfast, will take place at eateries throughout the City area from 16-22 June.

You could enjoy Lisburn Restaurant Week al fresco style in the Rooftop Garden at Thornburys Restaurant, Chapel Hill, Lisburn. They serve a full breakfast menu from 8am and lunch from 11.30am to 5pm, including freshly bakes scones and some of their renowned desserts.

The week kicks off with a culinary celebration in Bow Street on Saturday 14 June between noon and 4pm with cookery demonstrations, sampling opportunities, competitions and fun for all the family.

The aim of LRW is to give diners an opportunity to sample local hospitality at its very best, garnished with great money-saving and value-added offers at participating eateries in Lisburn, Hillsborough and Moira.

Alderman Allan Ewart, Chair of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, said: “Lisburn Restaurant Week gives us the opportunity to tell people about our great range of fine dining and informal eateries with the aim of reaching out to new customers, increasing visitor footfall and boosting dining spend.”

Restauranteurs, funders, sponsors and local suppliers have been working together to deliver a varied and entertaining week with something for every pocket, every taste and every age.

More than two dozen restaurants, bistros, pubs and cafes are taking part in this festival of food, which is set to become an annual event, supported by Lisburn City Council and Lisburn City Centre Management.

Planned activities include Meet the Chef sessions, cookery demos, themed nights, live music and entertainment, wine-tasting, family nights, charity events, cocktail demos, comedy hours, live auctions and DIY dishes.

The LRW Ambassador 2014, a role which will be rotated annually, is celebrity chef Derek Patterson, while the Cook-off Challenge Champion this year is talented young chef Mark McLaughlin of The Wallace, with Leigh Ferguson of The Square Bistro and Dale Hamilton of The Cardan as joint runners-up.

Detailed information on menus being offered by individual restaurants and cafes can be found on the website and in thousands of brochures being distributed at retail outlets, tourism offices and shops throughout the Council area and farther afield.
