Dunaghy band parade - final preparations

While most marching bands will be focusing on this weeks Twelfth celebrations, the members of Dunaghy Flute Band will also be putting the final touches to their annual parade preparations which will be held in Ballymoney next Wednesday (18th July).

For many years now Dunaghy Flute Band have been at the forefront of ensuring that there is a family fun element to their annual parade and again they have brought together a significant programme of entertainment this year.

Performing in High Street at 7pm will be the highly renowned local Ulster-Scots folk group from the Ballymoney area, ‘Skullduggery’ who have made a name for themselves in live performances in recent years. Their sound includes accordion, keyboards, fiddle and percussion. Always a big favourite the groups performance will include many of their repertoire of popular tunes.

Also on High Street and in conjunction with the North Antrim Cultural and Musical Society there will be a short military display by the B Special Historical Platoon. The group which was formed on the 30th anniversary of the stand down of the Ulster Special Constabulary to commemorates and the service of both the A Specials (1920-24) and B Specials (1920-70). The programme includes foot and weapons drill as well as re enactment of typical inspection and practical patrol duties of the time. Meanwhile at 8pm Castlecroft will be the venue for a display of lambegs and fifing by Ballymoney Fife & Lambeg Club.

As always there will be lots of activities and entertainment pre-parade for the children. High Street will also host facepainters and balloon modelling while bouncy castles will be situated in both Townhead Street Car Park and on the green at Trinity Drive. The much loved selection of cartoon characters including Shrek, Donkey and SpongeBob will be on the streets too with their usual bags of treats for the younger spectators.

This year the procession will be led by the local Vow Accordion Band and will start at 8.30pm sharp from the North Road. As from previous years the starting point has changed from the Townhead Street Car Park.

This has been agreed in conjunction with the PSNI, with regard to traffic management, as a result of the parade no longer clashing with the Milk Cup football matches being held at the Showgrounds.

Anyone still feeling energetic after the evenings entertainment can also boogie the rest of the night at a disco in the Manor Hotel afterwards.
